John 21:15-25
chosen word
Verses 19, 22
A title
He restores us from life's failures, so that we can care for the Lord's sheep, follow Jesus, and do the Lord's work.
19
Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, "Follow me!"
22
Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me."
The resurrected Jesus appeared to his disciples the third time and
He gave the disciples an abundance of 153 fish after going fishing all night and did not catch anything,
and now he has breakfast with the disciples.
At this point,
Jesus said to Simon Peter,
"Do you love me?"
He asked him three times and told him to feed and feed Jesus' sheep, that is, take care of them.
The other disciples would be similar, but in particular, when Jesus suffered on the cross, Peter denied that he did not know Jesus three times.
(John 18:27)
Knowing this, Jesus told this in advance before Peter and his disciples.
(John 13:38)
From Peter's point of view,
he could have thought that he was a failed disciple of Jesus who denied Jesus, and a failed life.
It would be embarrassing to be with the resurrected Jesus.
It is not a life of failure by confessing in front of Jesus and several disciples that Peter, who denied Jesus three times, loved Jesus three times.
Jesus established him as a disciple of Jesus who could do the Lord's work.
Jesus said to Peter, "Follow me." (verses 19, 22)
Now, as a follower of Jesus,
Peter was raised again as an apostle, doing an important job in the Lord's work, which was given by Jesus to feed, shepherd,
and care for the Lord's sheep.
He was established by Jesus.
It applies to our lives as well.
We thank you for allowing us to live as children of God who have received salvation by believing in Jesus.
However, I thank Jesus for the grace that sustains me and builds my faith when I feel like my life has become a failure as a disciple of the Lord because of my foolishness and mistakes, and I am ashamed to approach the Lord and I am disappointed.
Thank you for the grace to restore us from a life that seems to have failed, to feed the Lord's sheep,
to feed and care for the Lord's sheep, and to make us disciples who follow Jesus.
As Jesus completely supports me,
I pray that I will escape from a life that seems like a failure,
do the Lord's work with faith in Jesus, multiply the faithful disciples of Jesus, and live a life of obedience for the kingdom and will of God.
